I want this section to be of help for people who have nice obscure music to share but do not know how to rip it from a vinyl LP or a Cassette Tape.

Good idea as I have got many mails asking about how to transfer their tapes/vinyls digital.
I am willing to help out here along with Bones! shoot!

I am also working on a guide (as complete as possible and understandable for beginners on this matter).

So i felt helpful and wrote this
Here it the way I do all my rips / tutorial I wrote in the past 30 mins.
All you need is:
A record or cassette player that has 2 speakers inputs.
A chord that has the two audio prongs (red and white) on one end and a headphone hook up on the other side.
A computer with a mic input or an audio card that has a line in port (blue) (Line in give you the best sound quality)
and Audacity or any other software that does the same thing.

Step 1
1. The first thing to do is plug the audio chord into the speaker inputs.
2. Then you plug the other end into ether the line in or mic inputs.
3. Then you open Audiocity.

Step 2 Setting up Audiocity
*If you are not using Audiocity skip this*
1. when you first open the program go to preferences (ctrl+p or open the edit tab and it is the last thing on the list)
2. The main thing you want to do is to make sure you are using the best recording device. It will have the same name as the sound card you have in your computer (ex. if you have a philip's sound card use the philip's recording devices).
3. Then make sure you have the correct number of channels (1 for mono, 2 for stereo....)
4. Then you want to set up the quality of the recording (I normally just use what the program starts with) and what type of file the recording is saved as. (I always save it as a 16bit wave file)
5. make sure that you have the correct input selected (line in, mic)

step 3 Recording
1. Put in music you want to rip
2. Start the music
3. quickly hit the record button before the start of the first song (I like to do a few test runs to see if I have the volume set correctly.
4. when side 1 is finished stop the recording.
5. repeat steps 1-4 with side 2

Step 4 Cutting
1. After you are done recording exit out all the music (don't have to do this but I like to cut out the tracks for side 1 first)
2. Select track 1 (from the first quite part the the second quite part)
3. Cut out the track (ctrl+X or Edit menu cut)
4. Then make a new track (ctrl+N or file menu new)
5. Export that track as a wave. (file menu Export as wave) or you could skip steps 3-4 and just use the export selection as wave (file menu Export selection as wave)
6. repeat steps 2-5 or just 2 and 5 for the rest of the tracks

Step 5 Convert to MP3 (Audiocity does have a export to mp3 but i can't seem to get it to work)
1. Just search for a free wave to mp3 converter (if you don't have one). the one I use is very simple.
2. To set up the program I use. just click on the options button. Then click mp3 and set where you want the file to be sent to.
3. After you set that up just go to the mp3 tab and set the bitrate (I like using 320kbps) After that hit ok to leave the options
4. Now click the add button and find the folder you put the tracks you cut out (to select all the files ether click and drag over the files or click on the first file then hold shift and click on the last file. If there are files in between the one you want you just need to hold ctrl when clicking any files after the first one.
5. once added double check the bottom bar of the program to make sure the settings are correct. If they are hit Convert.
6. add to your media player and enjoy your music.

If you can fill in any blanks (like the name of those audio chords) it would be very helpful.

I'll be adding Pictures tomorrow to make everything more clear. I might also record a video tutorial to go along with this at some point.
